About The Position

Under supervision, this technical theatre position supports technical aspects of events including, but not limited to, audio, lighting, video, stage set-up/restoration, and related functions for professional productions, concerts, pageants, and community events that take place at the Music Pier, Hughes Performing Arts Center and Special Events around Ocean City, NJ. Located on the historic Ocean City Boardwalk, the Ocean City Music Pier is a leading Performing Arts Center on the Jersey Shore and is home to a professional orchestra, hosts world renowned musical acts/bands, fully staged productions and is Ocean City’s premiere event space.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Setup and operation of portable audio equipment such as active & passive speakers, mixers, cables, and microphone, as well as procedures for operating and testing audiovisual equipment.
  • Use of and minor adjustment to soldering irons, vacuum cleaners, small power tools, and other equipment.
  • General knowledge of audiovisual equipment is required, along with basic understanding of procedures, materials, and tools used in washing, mopping, vacuuming, spackling, sanding, and painting.
  • Ability to: Troubleshoot problems with audiovisual equipment
  • Learn preventive maintenance procedures, procedures for dispatching materials and equipment, and the procedures for operating  volt or ohm meters and signal testers
  • Lift and move moderately heavy objects
  • Understand, remember, and carry our oral and written directions, learn quickly from directions and demonstrations, and read and interpret laws, rules and regulations
  • Maintain the stage and related areas in a clean, hygienic and orderly condition.
  • Follow safety precautions and report potentially hazardous conditions, work harmoniously with others
  • Keep simple records
  • Read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
  • Well-rounded background in multiple aspects of technical theatre and live entertainment production (i.e. audio, video and lighting).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with digital audio consoles, stage lighting design, and/or live video production is a plus.
  • The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in extremely fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates audio, lighting and video consoles and accompanying technical equipment
  • Focuses lighting fixtures, changes lamps and color gels
  • Places microphones, cables, and microphone stands in appropriate locations on stage
  • Places audio monitors and musical equipment in proper positions on stage
  • Erects acoustic band shell
  • Prepares and/or operates curtains and stage scenery
  • Sets up and breaks down stage chairs, music stands, platform choral risers, and miscellaneous facility equipment such as tables, runway, seating and podium
  • Carry out minor repairs and painting to flooring, trim, walls and other such stage maintenance and set construction/stage props
  • Sweeps and mops stage and floors
  • Waxes floors
  • Cleans windows
  • May use the telephone to confirm technical requirements and/or rehearsal times
  • May write correspondence to supervisor or division head regarding job duties or requests.
