About The Position

What does a Lifeguard do? Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas by 10-10 scanning Assist swimmers in distress Provide emergency medical assistance as trained to any person on the YMCA premise as Necessary Provide support to swim lessons and aquatic programs instructors Take and record chemical readings set forth by branch Know and operate pool equipment as required (i.e. lane lines, chair lift) Enforce and educate members about aquatic rules and procedures set forth by branch Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with members Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings Our Commitment to Belonging At the Channel Islands YMCA, we are committed to building bridges within our communities. Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor
  • Must be able to complete YMCA swim test and pass entry written test
  • Possess a basic-level Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) certification from one of the following organizations: Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, YMCA, Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program™, Boy Scouts of America (BSA), StarGuard ELITE, United States Lifesaving Association (USLA).
  • Ability to transition to Red Cross certification within 90 days
  • Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
