About The Position

Looking for a great seasonal job working outside with a flexible schedule? Come join the Plymouth Y team as a lifeguard this summer. We will provide and pay for your training!! This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The lifeguardcreates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years old
  • Must have current Ellis lifeguard certification and current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, and O2, or obtain before May 2026 (YMCA will provide and pay for your training!).
  • Must be able to perform all physical tasks of a lifeguard as well as be able to lift an adult male or female from the pool onto the pool deck.
  • Complete program-specific and employee orientation training by required timeline.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive on deck, in uniform, ready to open pool promptly at scheduled time.
  • Smile and greet members courteously
  • Enforce all posted pool rules.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing a full composition of aquatic special events to include but not be limited to swim testing, water safety, swim lessons, and birthday parties.
  • Place and monitor signage for lap swim, classes, free swim, etc.
  • Monitor lap swimmers and designate fast or slow lanes when required.
  • Explain class and pool procedures to participants.
  • Provide friendly, courteous service to all members, guests, volunteers, and staff.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor on appropriate forms.
  • Wear appropriate lifeguard attire as outlined in employee handbook.
  • Attend all staff meetings scheduled by supervisor.
  • Secure ALL pool doors and gates at the end of your shift unless properly relieved by another certified staff member.
  • Communicate program and membership promotions to all program participants and members.
  • Properly test water for chemical balance and record at assigned times. Report any problems immediately to supervisor.
  • Check all safety equipment at the beginning of the shift, reporting any problems in writing to supervisor.
  • Follow daily maintenance schedule as assigned, including powerwashing pool deck, vacuuming pool, brushing down pool walls, wiping down railings, etc., reporting all problems in writing to supervisor.
  • Maintain highest level of cleanliness in pool area.
