We are hiring a Lifecycle Marketing Manager to own and scale our communication strategy across the entire customer journey. This is a critical, hands-on role focused on driving user engagement and business growth by engaging customers from their first touchpoint through to becoming loyal advocates. You will be the strategic owner of our email marketing engine, primarily using Marketo for marketing campaigns and Mandrill for transactional communications, to build a world-class customer experience.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in lifecycle, email, or growth marketing, preferably in an eCommerce / B2C or high-volume B2B environment.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with a marketing automation platform is required; proficiency with Marketo is strongly preferred.
  • Proven email production skills (HTML/CSS fundamentals, accessibility, image optimization) and rigorous QA.
  • Proven track record of developing data-driven lifecycle strategies that have a measurable impact on business goals.
  • Strong analytical skills and a hypothesis-driven approach to optimization and experimentation (A/B testing).
  • Experience managing transactional email systems (e.g., Mandrill, SendGrid) is a plus.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional written communication skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • A customer-centric mindset with a passion for creating a seamless user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute Shippo’s lifecycle marketing strategy to drive key business outcomes like user activation, product adoption, and customer retention.
  • Own the end-to-end development of our email marketing programs, from strategic planning and campaign builds to deployment and analysis.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Support to manage and deploy critical operational communications, including product updates, service notifications, and emergency alerts.
  • Design, build, and optimize automated nurture campaigns in Marketo that guide new users to their 'aha!' moment and convert them into active customers.
  • Develop targeted campaigns to increase product usage, prevent churn, and successfully upsell new features or plans to our existing customer base.
  • Manage and segment our customer database to ensure communications are highly personalized, relevant, and timely.
  • Partner with Design/Content to produce on‑brand, accessible, mobile‑first templates; own QA across major clients (e.g., Apple Mail, Outlook, Gmail).
  • Own and report on key lifecycle marketing metrics, including email performance but more importantly business impact (user activation rates, feature adoption, and churn reduction).
  • Establish a rigorous A/B testing framework to continuously experiment and improve campaign performance.
  • Analyze results to deliver actionable insights and recommendations for optimizing the entire customer journey.
  • Own the email/lifecycle governance (send priorities, frequency caps), deliverability health (domain authentication, reputation monitoring, list hygiene, bounce/unsubscribe management, and inbox placement) and compliance (CAN‑SPAM, CASL, GDPR/UK‑GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA).
