Requirements

  • Associates degree required.
  • Must maintain BLS/Healthcare Provider certification and Instructor status.
  • Must maintain license in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, or Paramedic.
  • Four (4) years of clinical experience required.
  • Two (2) years of Life Support Instructor status required.
  • Experience using word processing, database, and spread sheet software required.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and evaluates educational materials/curriculum to maintain ongoing knowledge and compliance with organizational, regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates professional development of team members through the utilization of educational curriculum.
  • Initiates opportunities to develop critical thinking and critical reasoning skills for self and other team members while modeling behaviors for the team.
  • Identifies, creates, and delivers potential opportunities for clinical and non-clinical educational services throughout the corporation, including intervention in critical work force needs.
  • Creates and delivers knowledge assessments for appropriate content and procedures, pertinent research, and test instruments necessary for best practices.
  • Establishes and delivers educational development plans for team members.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the research process; interprets and uses evidence-based practice guidelines in addressing learning needs.
  • Recommends and implements new practices and follows through with team members with little or no guidance.
  • Assumes active teaching role in life support classes ensuring participants are being taught the current knowledge and practices.
  • Ensures adult learning principles are integrated into all programs by reviewing and monitoring current and future courses with little to no direction.
  • Develop learning objectives and maintains content to support objectives through classroom coursework, self-study sessions or online coursework. Identifies life support education needs throughout the organization and plans courses accordingly.
  • Assesses competence of instructors bi-annually by use of written test and skill evaluation per AHA requirements.
  • Responsible for the orientation of all new “discipline specific” life support instructors.
  • Identifies and analyzes mechanisms to train large groups in life support.
  • Schedules instructors to ensure adequate instructor to student ratios and align with instructor certifications and strengths.
  • Participates in interview process of new life support instructors. Provides feedback to Manager for Coaching Plans.
  • Schedule appropriate staff meetings with instructors as needed or requested by Manager.
  • Identifies process improvement activities and engages in additional continuous improvement opportunities as requested by Manager.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends in order to enhance provision of Life Support programs at Orlando Health. Identifying, selecting and managing external training and accreditation bodies, agencies and providers necessary to deliver required training to appropriate standards.
  • Maintain Training Center Faculty status for Orlando Health.
  • Maintain Orlando Health Life Support Training Center accreditation.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Monitor and Maintain required supplies and necessary inventory needed for day to day function (i.e Cards, books).
  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge to all American Heart Association guidelines (AHA), American Heart Association Program Administration Manual, rules and regulations and adheres to each.
  • Accurately maintains all life support education class paperwork in accordance with Orlando Health and AHA guidelines.
  • Assume responsibilities and duties of Training Center in the absence/leave of the Manager.
  • Serve as a liaison and internal consultant to other Orlando Health departments regarding life support educational efforts.
  • Adhere to Orlando Health policy, procedures, value statements and Commitment to Excellence standards. Responds to the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • May be asked to assist with teaching other Education programs as needed.
  • Collaborate with outside vendors/clients in arranging Life Support courses or training.
  • Maintains contacts with external organizations and associations for the purpose of keeping current in new developments in the education field.
