About The Position

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Bureau of Water (BOW), Public Water Supplies Division, Drinking Water Compliance Section, Lead & Copper unit is seeking to hire a Life Science Career Trainee (Option E).  The ideal candidate will participate in the agency-sponsored training program for six to twelve months.  This trainee position receives working assignments designed to develop knowledge, understanding, and practical skills consonant with various professional life sciences career disciplines within the Lead & Copper Unit.  As an LSCT, you will receive controlled assignments in a broad range of departmental activities with increasing difficulty and responsibility. Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in some field of the life sciences.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires the ability to pass a name-based background check.

Responsibilities

  • Receives training for a period of six to twelve months in duration to gain knowledge in, observing, and assisting inanalyzing the results of water supply test reports for the Lead and Copper Unit, Drinking Water Compliance Section,Division of Public Water Supplies (DPWS), Bureau of Water:
  • Receives training in and observes higher level specialists in developing skills to confer withwater suppliers and their consultants regarding operational concerns, laboratory results, and water testing to beutilized in complying with State and Federal rules and regulations fordrinking water compliance:
  • Receives training to gain knowledge in explaining and interpreting DPWS programs and policies, and State andFederal laws, rules and regulations:
  • Observes, attends and participates in staff meetings, conferences, workshops and other activities:
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumeratedabove.
