About The Position

Under the supervision of the Manager Facilities Services, the Life Safety Technician is a hospital-based technician responsible for maintaining, inspecting, testing, calibrating, replacing, and repairing life safety systems, with a focus on correcting Environment of Care (EOC) deficiencies within the hospital. The Life Safety Technician will work with the Environmental Health Specialist to keep track of maintenance schedules and ensure all inspections, EOC deficiencies, and testing are done according to standards and codes set forth by manufacturers, federal, state, and local jurisdictions, and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Within one (1) year of hire /transfer, successfully completes The American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), NFPA-99, “Healthcare Facilities Code”, Certificate of Attendance
  • Annually achieves Continued Education Credits (CECs) until (ASHE), NFPA-101-2012, “Life Safety Code”, Certificate of Attendance is completed
  • Five years full time experience with utilities and asset maintenance in large public setting
  • Familiar with NFPA codes and other relevant safety regulations
  • Expertise in low-voltage electrical systems
  • Ability to drive to multiple sites daily
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Ability to work with software applications (BAS, Office Suite, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to trouble shoot equipment problems and determine root cause of failures
  • Exhibits good cooperation with management, such as a positive response to applicable improvement issues found in performance reviews or elsewhere; a positive response to instructions or work assignments; a positive approach to improving skills, communications, and productivity
  • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding and to work overhead and in cramped quarters
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with other persons within department and with employees from other departments
  • Ability to manage priorities and work efforts across shifts and with contractors
  • Demonstrated initiative and commitment to continuous improvement objectives
  • Ability to recognize patient and staff surroundings and work in a clean, quiet and respectful manner
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Associate degree or two years of Vocational Technical training in (EOC) life safety, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Healthcare experience
