About The Position

The position (K0244214 ) The Life Safety Code (LSC) Surveyor will conduct CMS Life Safety Code & Health Care Facilities Code (LSC/HCFC) surveys in acute and continuing care facilities (Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICFs/IID), Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC), inpatient Hospice facilities, Critical Access Hospitals (CAH), Psychiatric and General Hospitals and End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) to assess facility compliance with federal requirements and conduct follow-up/revisits, complaints or special investigations or monitoring reviews. Under the supervision of the Program Manager / Physical Plant Operations, the Life Safety Code (LSC) Surveyor may conduct CMS Emergency Preparedness (EPP) surveys to assess facility compliance with federal Emergency Preparedness Rule requirements and conduct follow-up/revisits, complaints or special investigations or monitoring reviews at the discretion of the leadership team. The responsibility of the LSC Surveyor is to act as the focal point for consistent application of methods, data collection and reporting to the Program Manager / Physical Plant Operations during the onsite surveys. Frequent travel is required to conduct onsite surveys.

Requirements

  • High School, GED
  • Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
  • 4 years of experience with fire inspections and emergency preparedness and current NFPA Fire Inspector 1 certification, current NFPA Certified Fire Plans Examiner certification, current CMS Life Safety Code Specialist (BLSC) certification.

  • Familiarity & past experience with the Life Safety Code survey process

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Program Manager / Physical Plant Operations, the Life Safety Code (LSC) Surveyor will conduct CMS Life Safety Code & Health Care Facilities Code (LSC/HCFC) surveys in acute and continuing care facilities (Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICFs/IID), Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC), inpatient Hospice facilities, Critical Access Hospitals (CAH), Psychiatric and General Hospitals and End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) to assess facility compliance with federal requirements and conduct follow-up/revisits, complaints or special investigations or monitoring reviews.
  • Under the supervision of the Program Manager / Physical Plant Operations, the Life Safety Code (LSC) Surveyor may conduct CMS Emergency Preparedness (EPP) surveys to assess facility compliance with federal Emergency Preparedness Rule requirements and conduct follow-up/revisits, complaints or special investigations or monitoring reviews at the discretion of the leadership team.
  • The responsibility of the LSC Surveyor is to act as the focal point for consistent application of methods, data collection and reporting to the Program Manager / Physical Plant Operations during the onsite surveys.
  • The LSC Surveyor will additionally conduct routine inspections to evaluate compliance with the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the State of Kansas, as well as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), in matters of fire protection, Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) compliance, and environmental regulations.
  • As Fire Protection Specialists, the Life Safety Code Surveyor will conduct plan review for all healthcare facility projects to assure compliance with FGI Guidelines, as well as those of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as adopted by CMS, and the International Building Code and International Fire Code, as adopted by the State of Kansas and/or the local jurisdiction where the project occurs.
  • The LSC Surveyor will conduct 50% inspection (common terminology - "rough-in" inspections) and will conduct a final inspection at 100% project completion.
  • Upon conclusion of any construction project is compliant with all guidelines, standards, and policies, they will provide a referral for licensing and occupancy.
  • Frequent travel is required to conduct onsite surveys.
