About The Position

The Life Enrichment Coordinator (LEC) is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating person-centered life enrichment programs specifically designed for residents living in the memory support unit of our long term care community. This role focuses on promoting quality of life through engagement that supports emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, and intellectual wellness. The LEC works closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure programming and activity interventions are aligned with each resident’s cognitive and functional abilities, interests, and care needs.

Requirements

  • Experience with older adults and/or people with dementia preferred.
  • Experience in life enrichment, therapeutic recreation, education, or a related field, with a strong preference for prior work in memory care.
  • Strong time management, organizational, collaborative, creative, and communication skills.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and positive approach.
  • Ability to document in an electronic health record system.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an Activity Professional or Recreational Therapist is a plus; dementia-specific training or certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Group Programming: Plan and lead 2-3 meaningful group activities each weekday, ensuring each program aligns with at least one of the six wellness domains (emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual). Design group activities to meet the median functional and cognitive needs of the group while incorporating adaptations and supports for all ability levels to ensure inclusivity and engagement. Create regular opportunities for residents’ families to join in activities and events.
  • Individual Engagement: Provide one-on-one enrichment experiences for residents who do not participate in group activities or who require individualized interventions for optimal engagement and well-being.
  • Collaboration & Care Planning: Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings, as needed, to contribute a life enrichment perspective on resident care. Collaborate with nursing, social services, dietetics, and other team members to develop and adapt individualized non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Non-Group Programming Support: Create person-centered, easy-to-implement activity plans and resources for use by care staff during evenings, weekends, and other non-group activity times to ensure consistent opportunities for engagement.
  • Assessment & Documentation: Complete initial, quarterly, annual, and significant-change life enrichment assessments and interviews for each resident in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Accurately record assessments, care plans, and activity participation in the electronic health record system within required timelines.
  • Maintain an inviting, safe, and sensory-appropriate environment for memory support programming.
  • Support ongoing communication with families about life enrichment participation and resident preferences.
  • Create opportunities for community engagement and intergenerational programming for residents.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to dementia care and best practices in engagement.
  • Other responsibilities may arise based on the needs of the residents and the department.
