About The Position

This position serves as the lead investigator and public information officer for all criminal matters occurring on Salisbury University property or involving university affiliates. They are responsible for information flow and will manage and conduct investigations into serious crimes, coordinating with allied law enforcement agencies, and will serve as the primary liaison to the State’s Attorney’s Office. The investigator plays a critical role in ensuring campus safety by analyzing crime trends, developing proactive strategies, and communicating key information to university leadership, the campus and community. This position serves as part of the University Police Leadership team and is a responsible for managing Police Communications & Dispatch, Special Detail, and Access Control. They will report directly to the Captain. This position is supervisory and is expected to demonstrate the level of professionalism to represent the University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Criminology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, with at least 2 years in a criminal investigative role.
  • Certification by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC) or eligibility for certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of investigative procedures, evidence handling, and legal protocols.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate complex information to a wide range of audiences and anticipate and respond to emerging issues strategically and tactically.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a university or campus law enforcement environment.
  • Familiarity with Clery Act compliance and Title IX-related investigations.
  • Advanced training in crime analysis, interview and interrogation techniques, or digital forensics.
