About The Position

GoodMaps is a universal navigation technology company with an emphasis on accessibility. Founded in 2019 and based out of Louisville, KY, GoodMaps creates more inclusive, safe, and productive indoor spaces. We create indoor digital maps in order to make navigation inside buildings universally accessible. Position Summary The Indoor Survey Technician is responsible for capturing accurate, high-quality indoor spatial data using cameras and LiDAR scanning equipment to support mapping, navigation, and digital modeling of customer spaces. This role performs on-site indoor scanning, ensures data integrity, documents field conditions, and coordinates with operations and data processing teams to deliver complete and reliable survey results. This role requires extensive air travel especially in North America.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate degree or technical training preferred).
  • 1+ year of experience in field-based work such as surveying, facilities inspections, construction documentation, IT field support, or similar roles (preferred).
  • Comfortable using desktop and mobile applications, including Microsoft Office and iOS apps
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on-site.
  • Strong ability to understand and describe building layouts.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, ability to travel internationally
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods during scanning sessions.
  • Ability to navigate stairs, tight corridors, and multi-floor buildings.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, or reach to position equipment as needed.
  • Comfortable lifting/carrying up to 20-40 lbs of equipment.
  • Work may involve extensive travel and overnight stays (75%+).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using LiDAR scanning tools (e.g., handheld or tripod-based indoor scanners).
  • Familiarity with mapping, reality capture, photogrammetry, or CAD/GIS workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites and perform indoor LiDAR scans of buildings such as airports, transit stations, office buildings, retail spaces, and multi-use properties.
  • Operate cameras and LiDAR scanning equipment while meeting company standards of scan density, quality, and completeness.
  • Identify and document key indoor points of interest (restrooms, elevators, levels, landmarks).
  • Maintain field notes and job documentation, including scan logs and special instructions.
  • Capture supplementary reference imagery for testing and validation.
  • Ensure all files are properly named, organized, and uploaded.
  • Coordinate and communicate travel schedules.
  • Represent the company professionally while working in customer environments, often in active facilities with staff and visitors present.
  • Follow all company and facility safety protocols, and maintain situational awareness in busy environments.
  • Transport and handle equipment safely, including scanners, cameras, chargers, and supporting hardware.
  • Perform basic equipment inspections, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
