We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Cat Technology Division as a LiDAR Senior Development Engineer at our Chillicothe, IL offices to develop and deploy new LiDAR products to our autonomous and automated machines. Role Definition: As LiDAR Senior Development Engineer you are responsible for specifying product that aligns with our corporate needs, then work with a third party provider to design, develop and qualify the LiDAR product for Caterpillar autonomous or automated machine systems.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering curriculum.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Technical Excellence: Knowledge of LiDAR technology and how it is applied; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Electronics Engineering: Knowledge of electronics engineering; ability to read schematics, simulate circuit designs and conduct necessary electrical tests at the PCB level.
Supplier Management: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.

Nice To Haves

Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to go along with degree from an accredited engineering program.
Strong communication and organizational skills to plan, execute and communicate technical findings
Ability to write code for test scripts and interaction with the LiDAR for the purposes of qualification (Python, C, etc…)
Previous experience in developing LiDAR or other advanced sensors utilized in autonomous or automated systems.
Previous experience with supplier interaction
Previous experience in system integration of sensors like LiDAR

Responsibilities

Overseeing / executing compliance with development processes and regulations for LiDAR components.
Investigating and troubleshooting all technical issues related to the LiDAR components.
Managing and interfacing with electrical and electronic product suppliers for the development of the LiDAR components.
Conducting performance testing of LiDARs leveraging Windows and Ubuntu tool sets developed in-house or leveraged from third parties.
Mentoring craftsmen, technicians and engineers in the development of LiDAR components.
