About The Position

As part of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a crucial role in promoting the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified individuals start businesses and pursue their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor and are responsible for regulating certain professions and occupations, ranging from architects and contractors to cosmetologists and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations. This position will serve as the Licensing Operations Administrator for the assigned boards within the Licensing and Regulatory Programs Division (LRPD) and will also serve as Executive Director and Regulatory Operations Administrator as necessary. TELEWORK OPTIONS: Please note that this position may be eligible for limited telework and is not a full-time telework position. Requirements

  • Knowledge of administrative law, regulations, and the procedures associated with professional licensing; adjudication of licensing and disciplinary cases; and promulgation of regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement law and regulation.
  • Ability to direct the administrative activities of boards, including the ability to manage and conduct meetings and studies.
  • Knowledge of legislative process and ability to work with all parties involved. Ability to testify before committees, subcommittees, and commissions.
  • Considerable knowledge of determining eligibility of applicants to participate in programs or to obtain licenses/certifications is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, and to establish cooperative and effective working relationships.
