Substitutes serve as temporary employees and assume responsibility for all aspects of the learning environment, including, but not limited to, supervising students, managing student behavior, and ensuring continuity of learning in the absence of the employee. The substitute communicates effectively with students, staff, and the public. The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ, and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate. Site-based substitutes are assigned to a single location and are expected to report daily. They are utilized by school staff to fill open short-term substitute assignments. They implement employee-created lessons and instruct students across content areas and classrooms. Long-term substitute teachers are utilized when substitute assignments exceed 10 consecutive days. The responsibilities of the long-term substitute may include lesson planning, developing and grading assessments, delivering instruction, and communicating and conferencing with parents, staff, and administrators. Other duties as assigned.
