Licensed Substitutes are valued members of the HDESD Partner School Districts Community who play an integral role in supporting our students and schools every day. Working as a Substitute with HDESD requires a high level of flexibility and adaptability, as Substitutes are eligible to work throughout the region in multiple districts, multiple schools, any subject, and any grade level. Licensed Substitute Teachers: Work a flexible schedule on an as-needed basis, and have the ability to assign themselves to jobs via the absence management online computer application system up to one month in advance. Are responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and facilitating student learning in the absence of the regular Educator. Perform under the supervision of a building administrator or other designated supervisor, and have the responsibility to continue the instructional program according to the directions left by the absent Educator. Function in accordance with all State policies, rules, and regulations, and in accordance with the performance standards of the District. Substitute Teachers can be placed in a variety of educational settings, classrooms and grade levels with variable hours (4 or 8 daily). By becoming a Substitute with HDESD you commit to substituting in a minimum of ten (10) absences over the course of a year.
