About The Position

Applicants MUST have a current and valid Maryland Security Guard card, issued by the Maryland State Police. This posting is for a Retail Security Officer Position at Towson Town Center. Hours and days of the week will vary. Must be available on Friday and Saturday evenings. Rotational weekends among the staff is done on a regular basis, once training and acclimation is completed. Weekends and days of the week will vary. Days off requests or college work schedules will be discussed during the interview process. This opportunity is a great fit for a Criminal Justice major, or a future applicant to a law enforcement cadet program. Flexible opportunity with your college schedule. Towson Town is close to Towson University, Goucher College and other local colleges. Flexible work schedule to match course schedule to be discussed during the interview process. Must have excellent people skills and communicate with both tenants and visitors in a professional and friendly manner. Provide security details as outlined. Work with retailers in the identification of criminal activities within their stores and those that occur on the property. Visitor, tenant and customer service focus is a priority. The Towson Town Security Department works with local law enforcement and fire departments on a daily and weekly basis.

Requirements

State Guard license is required, NOT expiring in 2026.

Security personnel will always perform job duties with a constant awareness of the surroundings, making note of all activity that takes place in their assigned areas.
Security Officers must maintain a professional image and always demonstrate and provide excellent customer service.
A security officer is to be honest, alert and well-disciplined as the custodians of employee and customer property and safety.

High School Diploma and/or equivalent (GED).
Must be willing to submit to a background and drug screen; any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation.
Minimum 3 -- 6 months prior experience in loss prevention, life safety, CCTV systems or access computer systems.
State Guard license is required, NOT expiring in 2025.

Responsibilities

Control of entrances and movement of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Patrol of buildings and perimeters.
Escort of material and personnel.
Inspection of security and fire exposures.
Special assignments.
Be on time and report to post in full uniform.
Maintain professional image that includes greeting customers, visitors and employees in a polite and friendly manner.
Be proactive in knowing all revisions to post orders and general information distributed by AFS.
Patrol physical property or maintain fixed post position, being diligent to report any suspicious activity and investigate accidents and criminal acts.
Monitor cameras or equipment in a continuous fashion as outlined in the post orders.
Maintain a working knowledge of all emergency policies, procedures and regulations to be able to respond to alarms, incidents and emergency situations.
Complete Daily Activity Reports, Logbook entries, Incident Reports and all relevant reports related to job assignment.
Have knowledge of any life safety systems, fire panels, CCTV system computer, and other such equipment to complete job assignments.
Ensure continuous and safe operation of all elevators and access doors.
Know authorized contractor personnel who are responsible for maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
Ensure training and compliance guidelines are met as outlined by AFS and other agencies regulating the customer / market.
Communicate on a daily basis with Security Supervisor any new Security Issues or changes that need to be considered or implemented.
