MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within MUSC that provides healthcare to patients throughout the state of South Carolina. Under the direction of a registered nurse, the LPN is responsible for all identified nursing care behaviors during their tour of duty and participates in the care of a defined patient population within a secure correctional healthcare environment. The role involves providing patient/family centered care, applying critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment, assisting medical staff with preparations, examinations, and procedures, and performing telephone and in-person screenings. The LPN also participates in documentation and reporting responsibilities, prioritizes patient calls, and cleans/stocks exam rooms. Specific responsibilities include performing nursing care for inmates/detainees, conducting medical intake screenings, responding to medical emergencies, working with correctional officers, maintaining control of sharps, medications, and medical equipment, and providing care in various correctional environments.
