About The Position

Essential Functions: 20% Assist in gathering information for patient assessments (e.g. obtains and documents patient health history, records vital signs, and symptoms, notes change, makes observations and reports information to the registered nurse and/or medical provider. Perform selected nursing procedures, administer immunizations, medications, and treatments as ordered by providers or registered nurse, and in accordance with Ohio Board of Nursing rules and regulations. Assist patients with navigation of the healthcare system and aids with the transition from parent-guided care to self-care. Educate patients regarding diagnosis, medication orders and self-care needs upon discharge from Health Services. 30% Schedule patient appointments, maintain patient documents, compose correspondence, answer phone, handle mail, facilitate and coordinate access to community health care needs when patient needs exceed extent of care available in Health Services, and creates/updates databases and extracts data as requested. Assists in monitoring campus health issues and campus trends on health behaviors. 50% Facilitates, coordinates, and assists with planning integrative prevention, health promotion and public health initiatives related to medical and mental health care needs of the campus community. Supports and assists with leading discussions and development of health promoting environments, health practices, and policies on health-related issues in higher education. Collaborates with community and campus partners to create a network of care and to leverage wellness resources. Facilitates and assists in providing educational and training opportunities for students to expand campus peer health ambassador programming. Assists in providing clinical experiences in Health Services and for students in health-related academic programs. Leadership: Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of student and/or temporary workers. Physical Requirements: Light physical effort required involving stooping and bending. Individual has limited discretion about walking, standing, etc. Occasionally lifting lightweight objects. Working Conditions: Routine discomforts from exposure to moderate levels of heat, cold, moisture, wetness, noise, and air pollution. May involve routine/occasional exposure to light chemical substances or hazards (radiation, chemicals, diseases, heights and moving parts.) Additional Position Information: Education: Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing. Licenses/Certification/Requirements: Current license as a practical nurse in Ohio to include a pharmacology certification issued by NAPNES, or OOPNES. Current certification in CPR for healthcare workers. Experience: Minimum requirement of 2-years licensed LPN experience in an ambulatory care setting with preferred experience in a college health ambulatory care setting. Ability to document and maintain health related records in accordance with University of Akron procedures required. Ability to promote health maintenance and wellness of students, faculty and staff through health counseling, screenings, and development of health awareness programs and activities required. Strong interpersonal skills in working with and educating a diverse university community require. IV insertion skills preferred. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
