About The Position

MUSC Rutledge Tower Outpatient Neurology Clinic provides care for a variety of Neurological Disorders. Some examples include Epilepsy, Memory Disorders, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular and Stroke. The clinical staff assist with triaging and preparing patients for their appointments, assisting with various procedures to include skin biopsies and Botox injections. The clinical staff helps coordinate patient care and treatment plans through telephone calls and messages. Our team works closely together to ensure our patients healthcare needs are met, while encouraging our staff to work to their highest potential in every aspect of patient care. Rutledge Tower Neurology Department is seeking a highly organized and patient-centered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide remote in-basket support for a busy outpatient neurology practice. The In-basket LPN provides virtual clinical support, patient assessment, care coordination, and follow-up through remote platforms. This role ensures high-quality patient care by assisting providers, executing care plans, and delivering patient education via phone, video, chat, or secure messaging, helping to ensure timely, accurate, and compassionate neurological care. Orientation will initially be in person in the Neurology clinic located at Rutledge Tower, Charleston SC. Time frame for in person training is approximately 4-6 weeks or until the care team member can function independently, effectively and safely to provide patient care. Once this goal is achieved the care team member will transition into a 100% remote role. Requirements

  • LPN I Minimum Training and Education: Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program.
  • Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
  • LPN Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina LPN License or compact state license.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and respond to neurology patient in-basket messages, including symptom updates, medication questions, and care coordination needs.
  • Triage incoming messages using established neurology protocols and escalate appropriately to RNs, NPs, or neurologists.
  • Process routine neurology medication refills and assist with prior authorizations.
  • Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, medications, symptom tracking, and follow-up instructions.
  • Coordinate referrals, testing, and follow-up appointments with neurology team members.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in the EHR/EPIC.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical guidelines and state scope-of-practice regluations
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality in virtual environments
  • Adhere to clinical protocols, quality standards, and clinical best practices
