About The Position

To assess and prepare each patient prior to their procedure. To maintain patient safety, comfort, and privacy. To re-assess patient after the procedure and discharge with instructions when stable. Ensure that all equipment is set up and functioning properly prior to procedure. To administer conscious sedation according to policy Make Pre-procedural phone calls to obtain accurate patient history. Check that patient name and date of birth, our two patient identifiers are accurate and reflected on Manhattan Surgical Hospital documents as well as patient armband. Review the laboratory destination is accurate. Assess each patient on admission, include baseline vital signs, allergies, and prior pertinent history. Auscultate lung sounds. Obtain a finger stick blood sugar on all patients taking medication for diabetes. Witness patient signing consent for procedure. Question the patient regarding bowel prep. Identify that stool consistency is liquid and runs clear with most recent bowel movement. Start IV, preferably in right arm, using protective equipment, then position patient. Question whether patient possess any mechanical devices, prosthetics, implants, or any physical limitations. Set up equipment for procedures. Monitor patient during procedure while assisting the physician. Clean and disinfect equipment after each procedure. Restock and re-order supplies as needed. Follow proper procedures for handling hazardous waste materials. Complete chart (endoscopy notes) for each patient. Fill out appropriate specimen forms and log in laboratory book. Transports all specimens to the lab following policy. Assess patient post procedure. Review discharge instructions with patient. Provide education related to new medications and diagnosis. Make follow-up phone calls on all patients from the previous day and document on the nurses notes form. Clean and restock the Endoscopy Department daily. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Licensed as Registered Nurse
  • BLS and ACLS Certified or certification within 6 months of date of hire
  • Demonstrates ability to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day
  • Demonstrates ability to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis
  • Demonstrates ability to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2-year experience in Endoscopy for Tech position preferred
