As an Addiction Counselor, you will play a vital role in providing counseling services to alcohol and drug dependent clients as part of an interdisciplinary team in inpatient and outpatient hospital or clinic settings. Requirements

  • Successful completion of all prerequisite requirements including education and clinical hours for a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor (LADAC)
  • 3-5 years of experience in a clinical setting
  • Must have a valid and unencumbered LADAC license from the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice
  • Must have a reliable source of transportation

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial therapy assessment to develop appropriate treatment goals for alcohol and drug dependent clients.
  • Collects and reviews referral information upon assessment of patients to determine eligibility for inpatient and outpatient programs.
  • Assesses strengths and weaknesses in collaboration with treatment needs in development of multidisciplinary care plans and post-acute services.
  • Conducts initial patient interviews, determines diagnosis and develops appropriate treatment plan including in-patient and other potential community-based programs in order to best meet the patient’s needs.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate agencies as needed; provides clinical consultation to referral resources, family members, and others to help support patients in their recovery.
  • If determined appropriate, conducts individual and group counseling sessions with patients.
  • Updates and reviews patient records including notes on individual and group sessions.
  • Works closely with patients to engage them in the decision-making process and help them understand the benefits of assessment and accessing the appropriate level of care as indicated.
  • Monitors patient access to and involvement with treatment plan and other providers to help address barriers to treatment and the recovery process.
  • Coordinates with other members of the treatment team to evaluate patient progress and make changes to treatment plan as needed.
  • Effectively communicates with patient and medical professionals as needed regarding medical condition, changes in condition, progress and available programs in place upon discharge.
  • Models and supports health and wellness activities and healthy coping skills for patients.
  • Works collaboratively with patient’s funding sources to obtain initial authorizations for reimbursement for intervention and recovery support services.
  • Completes paperwork requirements and maintains quality, up-to-date clinical records.
  • Maintains working knowledge of other drug and alcohol treatment agencies and programs and a list of resources that can be shared with patients.
  • Remains in compliance with internal and external policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, including company’s policies and procedures, federal, state and local regulations.
  • Participates in all assigned meetings, staff development, and training as required.
