About The Position

On behalf of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Educator Licensure Unit determines educator license eligibility and issues licenses to qualifying educators in the State of Montana. Licensure information and disaggregated data is reported to the Superintendent of Public Instruction, higher education legislators and provided to the Board of Public Education. Recommendation for educator licensure rules and changes to rules are made to the Superintendent of Public Instruction for submission to the Board of Public Education to assist in actively ensuring the opportunity for placement of qualified educators in Montana schools. The Educator Licensure Unit is responsible for issuing approximately 7,600 licenses annually. Requirements

  • Knowledge of confidentiality with private, personal information, and adheres to law, rules, and policies.
  • Ability to deal with diverse individuals and groups in a cooperative and productive setting.
  • Ability to assist with service failures and prioritize user needs in a timely manner.
  • Ability to listen and probe to fully understand problems and the underlying issues.
  • Ability to provide clear verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to solve problems while exhibiting judgement and a realistic understanding of issues.
  • Ability to promote friendly group working environment.
  • Ability to adjust to change, requests clarification from program director if unclear.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related field preferred.
  • One year of job-related experience in compliance, licensing, or related field.
