About The Position

The City of Concord Public Library is looking for an engaged Library professional for a part time position supporting the patrons of Concord Public Library! Department: Concord Public Library Type of Employment:  Part Time-11 hours per week Schedule:  Work is performed one day at a branch of Concord Public Library and a Saturday shift every week is required at Concord Public Library. Times worked will vary but the weekly hour total will be 11.   Salary Range: $22.25 to $26.38 depending on experience. (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)   Provides reference and reader's advisory services for patrons; assists in the location of sources and the selection of materials; assembles collections of books for teachers; instructs patrons in the use of online catalog.   Oversees the development and maintenance of areas of the collection as assigned; uses standard selection tools and guidelines as outlined in the Selection Policy to order new material with budgeted funds; removes worn or unused books from the collection.   Performs circulation functions; checks out materials; registers new library patrons and renews expired registrations; collects and records payment of fines; places requested items on reserve; explains library policies and procedures; registers and logs in children for use of the Computer Center; records statistics for periodic tallies; sorts returned materials for shelving by pages; balances monies collected; aids patrons in the use of self-check machine.   Participates in program planning and production; prepares and presents Storytime; assists in planning Summer Reading Program events.   Creates bibliographies on specific subjects.   Classifies new children's materials.   Supervises pages in the absence of other supervisor.   Ensures that the library is maintained in an orderly manner; monitors facilities maintenance and repair.   Oversees the acquisition and display of private collections in display cabinets.   Researches books, songs, and finger plays for children's programming.   Provides staff coverage at branch library.   Selects visual formats for the branch rotating collection.   Processes intra-branch and interlibrary loan requests.   Develops displays to promote library services.   Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university in Library Sciences or other related field; and, one year of related experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
  • Knowledge of library policies, procedures, terminology, and materials.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures, including computer usage and applications.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical computations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Skill in communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in assisting patrons with various library services and operations.
  • Skill in using a computer to enter and retrieve information.
  • Skill in sorting and categorizing library books and materials in standard order.
  • Skill in making change in money.
  • Skill in recording monetary transactions using basic bookkeeping techniques.
  • Skill in developing and presenting children's programming.
  • Mental and Physical Abilities to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with library personnel and patrons.
