About The Position

The Library Supervisor serves as the primary leadership presence during evening and late‑night hours. This role oversees operations at Evans and the Annex and supports West Campus Libraries to ensure consistently high service standards. The position directs the Building and Extended Hours Team and provides direct supervision, guidance, and performance support to evening and overnight staff. Because the role frequently involves addressing user concerns, resolving operational issues, and managing sensitive or time-critical situations, it requires strong communication abilities and well-developed conflict-resolution skills to maintain a professional, calm, and service-oriented environment. The supervisor also collaborates closely with the Director of AskUs to evaluate existing practices, refine procedures, and implement guidelines that strengthen service quality and operational efficiency. It is a role well suited to someone who excels in leading frontline service operations and ensuring continuity of support during the library’s most critical service periods. This is an on-campus opportunity. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site at our College Station campus, Sunday through Thursday from 3:30 pm to midnight. Salary: $4298.67/monthly

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of supervisory experience in a public, academic or specialized library or archive.
• Must be able to adjust schedule on an occasional basis to help cover during extended hours or in the event of an emergency.
• Must be able to work early evenings and days during periods between academic semesters.
• Work hours are Sunday - Thursday 3:30 pm – midnight.

Nice To Haves

• Three or more years of related supervisory experience in a public, academic, or specialized library or archive.
• Knowledge of academic library functions at an advanced level.
• Library experience with circulation, ILL, course reserves or reference/chat.

• Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting guidelines and decision-making.
• Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
• Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.

Responsibilities

• Building and Extended Hours Management - Monitors public areas and respond to disruptions to maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
• Serves as the primary contact for late evening/overnight staff in resolving facility and access issues.
• Opens and checks public spaces for user access; follow up on outstanding facility concerns from previous shifts.
• Conducts study area sweeps for compliance and report issues to appropriate authorities (Radio Room, UPD, etc.).
• Reviews group study rooms, chalkboards, bulletin boards, and computer areas to ensure inclusivity and usability.
• Responds and takes appropriate action when security and/or fire alarms are set off or other building crises occur, facilitates safe evacuation, implements administrative Call Tree, and performs post event department checks, as appropriate.
• Monitors and maintains building round log.
• Oversees new media arrivals and film/music displays.
• Supervisor Responsibilities - Supervises full time staff and student workers.
• Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches and process timesheets.
• Plans, monitors, and adjusts workflow.
• Assigns desk duties to late night staff and student employees.
• Service Desk Support - Supervises late evening and overnight operations at the Evans/Annex AskUs Desk.
• Provide support for West Campus Library during shift.
• Answers complex questions and explains Library policies and procedures.
• Maintains an atmosphere that promotes superior customer satisfaction and actively demonstrates Library customer service standards.
• Solves the most complex of customer problems.
• Documents procedural or customer issues.
• Circulates materials via FOLIO.
• Ensures all returned materials are properly processed during shift.
• Reports and documents all emergencies and incidents.
• Provides support for users of the Library reserves program (including streaming media), the Library media collection, and the Library Tech Bar for equipment lending.
• Supports staff and student employees in confrontational situations using conflict resolution skills.
• Monitors and respond to inquiries through the Virtual Reference SMS (text) program during overnight hours.
• Provides manager on duty front desk service coverage during assigned hours.
• May open and/or close the building.
• Service Desk Back-up - Provides desk coverage to other Library service point locations across campus as needed and assists with covering for staff shortages and/or special hours (one example is extended hours for finals).
• Collaborations and Partnerships - Serves as a Team Lead in departmental and interdepartmental meetings and activities in the Academic Engagement division.
• Works closely with other AskUs Teams leads and SPOS (Space Planning & Organizational Success Unit).
• Collaborates with Library units and campus partners to ensure awareness of campus activities.
• Serves on campus and library committees that support library operations and services.
