About The Position

The Library Specialist provides operational leadership and project management for library services, supervising student staff and overseeing collections, systems, and policies. The role manages interlibrary loans, acquisitions, subscriptions, and records accuracy while leading space, technology, and process improvements. The specialist collaborates closely with faculty and departments, delivers research instruction, develops student engagement initiatives, and ensures effective communication, compliance, and continuous improvement across library operations. This position is on-site at our partner institution, Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois. Hours of operation are Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Hours may vary.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • At least 2 years of experience in academic operations, library services or other related field.
  • Trained in OER through CARLI web-seminar series and possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Engaged in ongoing professional training in library and information science through graduate coursework.
  • Exhibit a natural curiosity, a strong desire to contribute to a high-performing team, and a drive to succeed in various initiatives.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teamwork as well as excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. as needed to move equipment across the campus environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide a team of student workers, including specific individuals, in various library tasks.
  • Oversee significant projects such as shelf reorganization to accommodate specific collections and reclassification of oversized books.
  • Design and distribute a monthly library newsletter, ensuring regular communication and engagement with the library community.
  • Manage the annual selection of databases and periodical subscriptions, including processing invoices and maintaining financial records.
  • Develop and revise critical library policies, focusing on areas like textbook reserve lending and anti-theft measures.
  • Conduct regular assessments and updates of the library website, ensuring all links are functional and resources are current.
  • Oversee the physical collection's accuracy against Alma records, coordinating with external services for bibliographic record updates.
  • Create or oversee the creation of process documentation for various library functions, including interlibrary loans, acquisitions, donations, and book repairs.
  • Enhance the Departmental Honors Thesis process, addressing issues like faculty advisory committee proportions.
  • Develop programs to boost student engagement and presence in the library.
  • Conduct research methods and resource presentations for classes as requested, with potential integration into regular curricula.
  • Engage with professionals for the utility, preservation, or sale of books in storage, and attend ongoing virtual training sessions for professional development.
  • Manage the interlibrary loan process using platforms such as Alma, OCLC, and CLIO, and handle shipping and receiving of loaned materials.
  • Undertake book repair and assist students in locating resources for their academic projects.
  • Process new book acquisitions and conduct regular book weeding.
  • Manage late fees and change monthly displays.
  • Purchase books for reserves and faculty desktop copies, and act as a liaison for ECampus.
  • Participate in faculty meetings to facilitate the textbook adoption process, aiming for greater accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Propose and coordinate library infrastructure improvements, such as carpet replacement and circulation desk upgrades.
  • Collaborate with the English department to implement AI tools for research and enhance communication with faculty regarding OER and Creative Commons Licensed materials.
  • Engage in ongoing projects like student travel coordination, assessing project status and ownership.
