About The Position

The Library Paraprofessional works in the school library to support students and staff with informational resources. This position requires the ability to support educational programming as well as advanced communication and collaboration skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current CPR/First Aid certificate (may be obtained through the school after hiring)
  • Crisis intervention training annually
  • Knowledge of professional communication norms and standards (written and oral)
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record-keeping
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or the Google Suite of office software
  • Working knowledge of general office and library equipment, including, but not limited to, computers (including software and databases), printers, copiers, telephones and media
  • Ability to demonstrate responsibility and consistency of attendance required for work with students
  • Ability to work with efficiency with attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility for the environment that may require a change of schedule and/or student activities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to work cooperatively with administrators and staff
  • Ability to observe all district policies and procedures
  • Ability to observe all general safety rules, carefully observing correct lifting procedures
  • Ability to supervise students
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English both orally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and consults with the librarian, classroom teachers to plan, organize, and implement specific activities/programs.
  • Follows daily schedule and school procedures, as well as implements student programming, as directed by the librarian and administrators.
  • Supports digital citizenship /media literacy skills to help students utilize information technology in order to responsibly engage in their global community
  • Inspires and supports the reading lives of both students and teachers
  • Encourages and facilitates students to become increasingly self-directed as they create digital products of their learning that engage them in critical thinking, collaboration, and authentic real-world problem-solving
  • Monitors student behavior in the library, intervening when appropriate and supporting the students.
  • Maintains accurate records for check out of books and other library resources.
  • Assists with the management and distribution of the school's Chromebook inventory
  • Supports the duties of volunteers in the library, including the Book Fair
  • Shares with the learning community collaboratively developed and up-to-date policies concerning materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, and acceptable use
  • Participates in professional development/continuing education programs as required/recommended by the school administrator
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
