Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing teaching and/or training services to students in a specialized subject. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data. The specialist assists students in identifying, locating and interpreting information housed in and outside the library media center. They promote the development of independent search habits by enhancing the student's ability to evaluate sources found. The role involves providing instruction in accessing, evaluating, and communicating information and in the production of media to fit within the curricula. The specialist participates in building, district, department, and grade-level curriculum development and assessment projects, plans jointly with teachers and administrators to provide and evaluate instruction in information access, and works with teachers to improve instructional activities. They are also responsible for providing an inviting environment in the library media center that promotes reading and research, maintaining, storing, securing, and loaning audiovisual equipment, and coordinating all instructional TV activities in the school.
