About The Position

Works collaboratively as a teamplayer with staff and carries out tasks under the direction of the Library Media Specialist to provide teacher and student instructional support and manage the library space. Teacher and student instructional support: Assists teachers in selecting and accessing library materials and information resources. Assists students in locating materials and researching reference questions. Assist students and staff in using technology equipment and resources to locate and retrieve information. Assist students and staff with various computer applications, including the Google Suite, printing, databases, import and export functions, digital, audio, video and sound files, internet searches, and other applications as needed. Directs students in accessing and using library materials. Responds to teacher requests for information or materials. Troubleshoot students' difficulties with software or technology equipment as they occur. Supports special programs that encourage reading and stimulate interest in libraries, literacy, and literature. Stays informed and knowledgeable about current trends in young adult literature. Stays informed and knowledgeable about online research websites and databases. Assists Library Media Specialist with selection, purchase, maintenance, and weeding of library materials. Assist Library Media Specialist in the development of instructional materials in a variety of formats. Respects issues of intellectual freedom. Respects issues that require confidentiality. Library management: Works collaboratively with teachers, parents, colleagues, and supervisors. Functions well under stress, exercises good judgment. Understands standard library procedure. Shelves and organizes library materials. Maintains and updates the library database. Uses computers to manage various aspects of library operation. Creates and distributes over-due notices. Prepares reports. Assists with yearly inventory. Attends meetings as required during scheduled work hours. Promotes appropriate conduct of students using the Library/Media Center facilities and services according to library rules and the Student Handbook. Monitors student use of computers and the Internet according to the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District Acceptable Use Policy. Promotes the school and the library as safe spaces where all students can be successful.

Requirements

  • College degree.
  • Courses or experience in education or library science preferred
  • experience with adolescents
  • comfort working proactively and directly with students
  • customer service oriented
  • strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • proficiency with computers and software applications, particularly the Google Suite.
