About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Assistant Library Services Director - Circulation, this position supports the mission of the library by providing access to resources, services, activities, and information of local interest that encourage life-long learning in our community. The Library Clerk is responsible for assisting in the facilitation of daily library tasks and operations. Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, providing assistance and guidance to library patrons, assisting patrons to utilize library services, and maintaining library resources. This position is also responsible for safety and security of the facility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two (2) years of post-secondary education; OR
  • A minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience working directly with customers in a fast-paced environment (food service, retail, etc.)
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
  • Must comply with all federal and state laws and organizational and departmental policies and regulations.
  • Must adhere to data practices policies and standards regarding non-public data. Access to non-public data should be strictly limited to what is necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. While accessing these data, the employee should take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized access by individuals without a work-related reason. Once the work-related purpose is complete, non-public data must be securely stored in accordance with county policies and Minnesota Statutes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service.

  • Open/close the library by deactivating/activating the alarm.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties.

  • Performs the physical and mental demands of the position.
  • Attends work during regularly scheduled hours.
  • Directs individuals to safe places during natural disasters.
  • In the absence of the Director or Assistant Director, assesses building situations and contacts appropriate agencies to handle the situation.
  • Assesses patron emergencies and gets attention when needed.
  • Fills out incident forms.
  • Participates in professional staff development.
  • Performs other related functions as apparent or assigned.
