Job Summary Under direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Access Services, work closely with team lead(er) and other team members to provide excellent customer services to library users (faculty, staff, students and community); assist in the daily operations of Access Services (Circulation, Interlibrary Services and Reserve/Media) by helping patrons at the service desk; performing various basic processing and maintaining of library materials. Provide excellent customer service to library users. This position also supports Library events at the direction of Library Administration. With over 20 events, tabling sessions, and other activities a semester, the outreach assistant is a vital component to ensuring logistics, client and guest support, and vendors are coordinated effectively. This position works closely with Library Administration on providing insight from on-the-ground event activity.

  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent and two years of related library and/or customer service experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing the library building and service desks at designated times, executing emergency procedures when needed, and managing the check‑in and check‑out of a variety of library materials, including general collections, ILS, reserves, media, and periodicals.
  • Processing of library materials includes handling “search and hold” requests and notifying patrons of search outcomes, searching and processing incoming and outgoing CSU+ requests, and preparing CSU+ materials for shipment. The role also involves clearing CSU+, LINK+, ORCA, and hold shelves of items that were not picked up.
  • Accessing library systems involves interfacing with platforms such as ALMA and ORCA to provide support for both patrons and library operations, processing and retrieving system‑generated reports, and assisting the ILS team with RAPIDO, CSU+, and BeachReach functions.
  • Library event support involves providing both front‑end and back‑end assistance for library events, collaborating with library faculty and campus faculty to coordinate bookings, logistics, and overall event support, and working with Library Administration to develop promotional materials for upcoming events.
