About The Position

The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for a dedicated and enthusiastic Librarian II to join our Neighborhood Library Services (NLS) Division. If you’re passionate about connecting communities with information, resources, and engaging programs, we encourage you to apply! In this role, you will provide reference services, user instruction, and outreach while developing programs that serve a diverse range of customers. Reporting to the branch manager, this position will support branch projects, strategic planning for branch collection and programs, and specialized services. This on-site position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays, with potential assignments at other branches. Requirements

  • Masters in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university.
  • Public Librarian Certificate, or requirements necessary to apply for a Maryland Public Librarian Certificate, within 90 days of starting employment.
  • Two years of experience as a librarian in a school or public library environment.
  • Experience with automated library systems, electronic databases, and World Wide Web resources.
  • Experience with Office 365 suite or MS Office.
  • Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.

  • Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, or other foreign languages.

  • Advanced customer service and communication skills, with the ability to mentor staff and support diverse patrons.
  • Strong knowledge of reference services, reader’s advisory, and library resources for all ages.
  • Expertise in planning and leading programs, such as literacy initiatives, STEM workshops, and workforce development programs.
  • Ability to develop and sustain community partnerships to expand library services and outreach efforts.
  • In-depth understanding of equitable library services and strategies for fostering inclusive engagement.
  • Awareness of socio-economic factors affecting urban communities and the ability to develop library programs and services accordingly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), integrated library systems (ILS), and data analysis tools.
  • Strong collection development skills, including evaluating materials and analyzing community needs.
  • Ability to contribute to system-wide projects, committees, and strategic initiatives to improve library services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced reference and reader’s advisory services, assisting both patrons and staff.
  • Lead the development of programs, outreach initiatives, and community partnerships based on data and community needs assessments.
  • Play a key role in collection development, ensuring materials align with patron interests and library goals.
  • Assist in mentoring and guiding Librarian I staff and library assistants.
  • Contribute to system-wide projects, committees, and strategic initiatives.
  • Stay current with trends in library services, technology, and public engagement.
