About The Position

Interacts with library patrons to assist them in selecting materials and meeting informational needs. Searches online catalog, databases and print sources to answer complex patron inquiries. Directs assigned staff and oversees activities in a branch library or portion of the central library unit. Keeps statistical records of unit activities and prepares appropriate reports. Provides guidance and support to staff in the use of bibliographic and computer assisted services. Assembles and arranges displays and bibliographies of books and other library materials. Represents the library system at schools, community groups or professional associations. Plans and conducts tours and programs for adults or children. Instructs and trains new employees. May plan and review work of other employees. Recommends materials for selection. Assists in collection development and maintenance. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate County Managers.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school.
  • Knowledge of current library practices and technologies.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Good computer and organizational skills
  • Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Good verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
  • Night and weekend work is required.
