Requirements

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in library science which must have included coursework in reference cataloging & classification of books & materials, selection of books & materials, bibliographic control, procedures for circulation & library organization &/or library administration or 18 mos. exp. in providing reference services, cataloging & classifying books & materials, selecting books & materials, bibliographic control, developing procedures for circulation & library organization &/or administration.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reference, research & reader services (e.g., assists in using library resources & enforces library policies)
  • Charges materials at circulation desk
  • Shelves books to maintain order
  • Maintains running inventory of all library materials
  • Assists in maintaining monitor housekeeping or Library, Maintain Law Library
  • Selects, orders, classifies & catalogs all books & library materials
  • Prepares orders & requests for purchase
  • Assists in receiving & checking all acquisitions of materials & equipment
  • Processes & catalogs library materials
  • Types library reports & catalogs cards
  • Visits special population units with requested materials
  • Secures inter-library loan books & materials for inmates & employees
  • Establishes & maintains varied selection of materials to meet needs of both inmates & employees
  • Instructs individual or groups in proper use of library facilities
  • Assists in planning of library services
  • Performs necessary tasks to keep library in compliance with library policies & audit standards
  • Prepares budget requests for library services
  • Records expenditures & prepares reports
  • Selects, classifies, & catalogues books, magazines, newspapers & library services materials
  • Reviews printed & non-printed library materials & recommends acquisition of new &/or updated materials, supplies, &/or equipment
  • Screens materials to ensure appropriate to needs & interests of inmates
  • Performs other librarian &/or related duties
  • Performs clerical tasks (e.g., typing, correspondence completion, file updates)
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, & training
