About The Position

5 Star Electric, LLC (5 Star) is a premier full-service provider of electrical construction, maintenance, and repair services with offices in Western Kentucky and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. 5 Star specializes in Distribution and Transmission Power Line work, Substation, Industrial, Commercial, Streetlighting, and Fiber installations. The Level III Technician, Small Cell is responsible for performing the installation of power and communication cable on new and existing utility and light poles throughout the United States, working in and around bucket trucks.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Two (2+) years’ experience with small cell or aerial operations.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions like sitting, squatting, standing, walking, climbing, etc.
  • Will be required to wear common protective safety equipment when working on site.
  • A high level of attention to detail is required.
  • A high level of time management, accountability, and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated, goal- oriented, and driven to accomplish department goals.
  • Ability to be organized, problem solve, and be solution oriented.
  • Ability to support a fast paced, demanding work schedule.
  • Ability to be up 50 ft in the air and can lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Expert knowledge of utilization of common small hand tools including but not limited to: wrenches, drills, screw driver.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (outlook, word, excel, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers.
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy.
  • Ability to climb and work up to 500+ft and lift over 50 lbs.
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating a bucket truck.
  • Pim and Sweep Testing.
  • Fiber power meter and OTDR testing.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the installation of power and communication cable on new and existing utility and light poles throughout the United States.
  • Work in and around bucket trucks.
  • Proficient-level ability to install radios, base station equipment, conduit, DC power wiring, AC Power and fiber optic cables.
  • Proficient-level ability to install and test low voltage DC power wiring and fiber optic cables.
  • Expert-level knowledge of print reading.
  • Proficient-level ability to take pre and post construction photos for construction closeout packages.
  • Connects and rearranges cable facilities associated with aerial, buried, underground and in buildings according to engineering design by utilizing hand tools and specialized equipment.
  • Proficient- level ability to install base station equipment and fiber jumpers in network hub buildings.
  • Proficient-level ability to utilize an OTDR to test and troubleshoot fiber optic cable.
  • Ability to perform work at heights of 50ft tall or less on utility poles.
  • Ability to safely operate a bucket truck, install and test cellular RF cabling and antennas.
  • Ability to perform PIM, sweep, fiber, and antenna alignment testing on site set rets and program equipment as needed.
  • Independently sets up and shuts down utility construction projects including traffic control in various conditions including highways, side streets, parking lots, downtown locations, etc.
  • Always follows the required safety practices while performing safety sensitive duties.
  • Performs other position duties when requested.
