This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design. We are seeking a skilled Technician with experience working in M&P labs who will leverage their technical expertise and leadership to ensure safe and efficient laboratory operations. This role involves performing material testing as part of a team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. As part of a small, hardworking, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for material testing in the M&P Labs. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years experience working in material test laboratories
  • Experience with engineering laboratory skills: weights and measures, chemical hygiene, materials safety planning, personal protective equipment, contamination control, workload organization and planning
  • Demonstrated ability to drive project and task execution to meet or beat scheduled need dates
  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and comfortable working at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work with and around chemicals and other hazardous materials
  • Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends if/when necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using equipment used for a variety of laboratory techniques (specimen preparation, optical and/or scanning electron microscopy, mechanical/structural testing
  • Experience with materials analyses of fusion and friction stir weld materials and processes, aerospace structural metals, etc.
  • Understanding of typical aerospace testing and quality processes
  • Understanding of the types of materials and processes used to fabricate aerospace components
  • Ability to operate manual machine tools (saws, routers, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory analysis per industry standard test methods.
  • Summarize, document, and communicate results to stakeholders
  • Develop standard methods, training material, and related documentation for laboratory processes
  • Demonstrate strict attention to detail in executing laboratory analyses
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities
  • Identify new equipment to expand laboratory capability and improve responsiveness
  • Safely work with hazardous systems containing chemicals, heat, and/or high pressure
