The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs. The Ground Systems Support (GSS) organization is looking for Structural Paint Technician for the Launch Equipment Shop (LES) who supports multiple programs for National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA). The candidate will provide paint shop support applying various coatings on multiple types of surfaces. The candidate will also support working in graphics sign fabrication using vinyl printing, cutting equipment and software. A background in painting and graphic design fabrication is highly desirable. THIS IS A REPRESENTED POSITION

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years related experience and HS diploma
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment
Adept in graphics programs such as Coreldraw to create prints and designs.
Ability to work with customers to assist with layouts and designs of printed projects
Familiar with paint application systems and products
Demonstrate advanced communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate work status, resolve technical issues and assist in troubleshooting and identifying solutions to ensure continuation of work to meet demanding schedules.
Must be able to coordinate work between multiple project disciplines
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects without missing deadlines or sacrificing accuracy
Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work in dynamic environments
Must be able to work independently or with minimal supervision
Demonstrated written and verbal presentation skills for interfacing with management and customers (internal and external)
Familiar with basic mechanical equipment and systems.
Ability to build positive/effective relationships with clients and co-workers and demonstrates focus on satisfying both internal and external customers Accepts responsibility for safety of yourself and others
Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, hard hat and other associated personal protective equipment.
Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
Position is located on a fabrication facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
Work Environment requires to work inside and outside throughout the work and shop areas.
Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/ is required to access various locations on the facility.
Climbing ladders, stairs and potential work at heights may be necessary.
All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
Full-time regular work hours, typically between Monday-Friday.
Position often requires overtime including weekend and some holidays, depending on operational needs.
Must be dependable and punctual.
Shift work may be required.

Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
Government security clearance may be required in the future.
Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
Must pass a federal background investigation.
Must comply with all "drug free workplace" requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.

A background in painting and graphic design fabrication is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Perform quality work in the application of commercial paints, coatings, or cable potting/molding in the LES Paint Shop.
Application coatings with HVLP application (high volume low pressure).
Application of common structural coatings such as Zinc, Epoxy, Polyurethane.
Perform chemical (Alodine) processing on different types of aluminum.
Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and work instructions to carry out written work assignments with minimal oversight.
Work directly with engineering personnel and technicians on the installation, and operation of components, special systems, and equipment.
Buildup of manufactured parts into final assemblies per print and work instructions.
Operate forklift and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required.
Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding and other work platforms.
Operate appropriate shop mechanical equipment, systems, and tools in the performance of work duties.
Clean hardware and components prior to, during, and after assembly using established procedures and specifications.
Maintain equipment as necessary, including preventive maintenance, repairs, or replacement of parts.
Execute all work duties in a skilled, safe, and technically acceptable manner.
Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work duties, to include safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, gloves, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses, etc.
Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions at the work site.
Notify Supervision of any hazards in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions.
Maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and safe condition.
Perform work in other classifications when incidental, but necessary to accomplish work assignment.
Provides day to day technical support for operations and maintenance issues.
Interface with customers and communicate completion of tasks on schedule, to the customer's satisfaction.
