About The Position

The RM is responsible for the strategic management of the Areas within their region; acts as a role model and leader, solves problems, makes informed decisions and manages the staff and time wisely in order to achieve PW goals; serves as a troubleshooter for a location that is experiencing operational, management or marketing issues; accountable for the performance of their Areas to their Vice President; and provides mentorship/guidance to Area Managers (AMs) to expand their area. This description may not include all of the duties listed, and the examples may not include all of the duties performed.

Requirements

  • Available to travel locally or nationally based on the needs of the region.
  • Must have experience as an Area Manager or comparable industry experience.
  • Educational coursework or prior experience in teaching, education, training, engineering, management or business.
  • Background requirements vary. Professional experience in Management, Customer Service, Business Management, Training, Education or Administration; previous experience instructing children a plus.
  • Work a full-time schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
  • Reliable transportation a must; secure location to store LEGO kits.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs to store and stock materials; bending, stooping and crawling with children during class instruction.
  • Must pass all background and health tests as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes new areas in their region by acquiring a diverse client base.
  • Consistently builds and improves company image. Handles public relations and client relationships. Researches competitive businesses to confidently answer the features and benefits of enrolling children in PW classes.
  • Analyzes marketing potential of new and existing locations and recommends additional sites or closings. May attend conventions to promote our offerings and organization.
  • Recruits, hires and mentors Area Managers (AMs), providing instructional support until Instructors and Assistants are hired.
  • Evaluates areas in terms of profitability, production and employee performance.
  • Manages sales, operations, monitors and controls expenses and payroll; manages employee relations, implements specific strategies to minimize risks.
  • Helps solve problems that may affect the service, efficiency and productivity of areas within their region.
  • Mentors and coaches AMs in the execution of daily operations. Establishes milestones for areas within the region and engages AMs in supporting that vision. Answers questions, resets direction and sets priorities that are aligned with the long-term company goals.
  • May call on locations where instruction is being held to monitor the success of the AM. Supports AMs in reaching their professional vision. Anticipates the need for additional LEGO and non-LEGO materials.
  • Monitors the AMs and Instructors classroom instruction and activities to determine strengths, areas of development, compliance with Play-Well policies and procedures. Interacts with Instructors, students, parents, teachers and clients.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations with the AMs.
  • Checks email and voice mail regularly for urgent issues, communications and updates.
  • Reviews managers website/database for area reports. Ensure managers are applying best practices when scheduling and staffing activities and programs.
  • Contacts AMs regularly to promote open communication and discuss current and future activities. Offers assistance during those times when the AM is too busy with classes to focus on other priorities. Displays best practices when teaching Play-Well courses.
  • Suggests ways to help AMs streamline their operations to become more effective in their position.
  • Develops and trains staff, build relationships, utilizes skills of staff most appropriately.
  • Maintains a fair, consistent set of standards as they apply to employees.
  • Establishes records and documentation pertaining to employees performance.
  • Communicates in a clear, concise manner. In addition, the ability to listen openly and provide instruction to employees.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization as necessary, providing feedback and suggestions to improve company performance, morale and profitability.
  • Flexibility, ability to prioritize and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment.
