As part of our Office of Legislative Services, you’ll be at the heart of how state policy is shaped, monitored, and implemented. This isn’t a typical internship—you will play an active role in supporting meaningful legislation that affects thousands of Nebraskans. The DHHS Office of Legislative Services is seeking a motivated, curious, and detail-oriented intern to support our work during Nebraska’s legislative cycle. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in public policy, government operations, and legislative compliance. Interns will work closely with legislative analysts, policy advisors, and agency leadership to learn how state agencies collaborate with lawmakers, track legislation, and analyze impacts across DHHS divisions. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).

Responsibilities

  • Tracking legislation and interim studies throughout the session.
  • Monitoring and attending legislative hearings to observe policymaking in action.
  • Maintaining and updating internal databases used for bill tracking and agency coordination.
  • Conducting research on assigned topics or policy areas.
  • Supporting the team in reviewing and monitoring bill implementation across DHHS.
  • Coordinating follow-up information after hearings, including gathering documentation or assisting with summaries.
