DUMAC is hiring several candidates as summer interns. DUMAC’s primary responsibility is to manage Duke University’s endowment assets. A legal intern for DUMAC may: Liaise with Head of Legal Department on projects. Work on term sheets and other investment strategies related to financing and investment. Gain exposure to the preparation of offering materials, partnership agreements, management and compensation arrangements, and closing fund formation transactions. Review of changing regulatory and compliance issues arising under U.S. and international securities, tax, and ERISA laws. Recent intern tasks have included reviewing Limited Partnership Agreements, Right to First Refusal Agreements, Audited Financials, and Investment Memos. Pre-existing knowledge of investment management is not required, but a strong interest is essential. Interest in technology is preferred as the role will explore the intersection of law and the latest AI tools in the legal industry. In addition to managing Duke’s endowment, DUMAC also manages the university’s defined benefit pension plan assets, Duke University Health System’s investments, and much of the university’s working capital. DUMAC also manages the assets of The Duke Endowment, the private charitable trust established by Duke University’s founder, James B. Duke. The position is paid and is anticipated to be 30-40 hours per week, with exact schedule to be discussed. The position will work with the Legal and Compliance team.
