About The Position

Kickstart your legal career with hands-on experience supporting a corporate legal team in the mortgage industry. This role focuses on legal research, document review, and organizing contracts and records to ensure compliance and accuracy. You’ll work closely with leadership, gain exposure to real-world regulatory frameworks, and build a strong foundation in legal operations. Ideal for a law student early in their program who is detail-oriented, proactive, and interested in the intersection of law and business. Remote or hybrid options available in Brookfield, WI.

  • Prior experience with legal software such as LegalFiles, AllRegs, and Westlaw.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and currently enrolled and in good standing at an ABA-approved law school.
  • Excellent grammar and diction.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence, and to communicate information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal in the real estate, lending or financial industry a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct comprehensive, end-to-end research projects involving state and federal laws, regulations, and guidance governing residential mortgage lending.
  • Assist in the review and preparation of contracts, leases, real estate documents, correspondence, and other legal papers of a routine nature.
  • Research and analyze relevant statues, rulings and precedents to be used as a basis for answering requests for legal opinions of a routine or limited scope.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal documents necessary for litigation.
  • Assist with classification of executed agreements, capturing key metadata (counter-party, renewal triggers, risk flags), and upload finalized documents to company’s contract lifecycle repository; Leverage workflow automations and validation checkpoints to ensure each record is audit-ready, searchable, and aligned with retention policies.
  • Perform general clerical duties (i.e. record keeping, opening and closing files, organizing mail, filing, preparing mailings, memorandums, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.
