About The Position

We are Para la Naturaleza, a nonprofit environmental organization based in Puerto Rico, and we are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team. This role provides legal support to the organization by drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and administering contracts, agreements, and related legal documents; mitigating legal risk; and supporting compliance with applicable laws and regulations affecting institutional operations.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of five (5) years of legal practice or equivalent experience, including contract drafting/negotiation and legal risk management.
• Strong legal writing and document analysis skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English), with the ability to draft and negotiate in both languages.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with productivity tools and document management systems.
• Active admission to practice law in Puerto Rico.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Availability to work extended hours, weekends/holidays, and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel and practical guidance to leaders and teams on a broad range of institutional matters, translating legal risk into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, amendments, notices, and other legal instruments to protect organizational interests.
• Maintain accurate contract records and ensure timely renewals, extensions, and close-out documentation, with strong version control and secure filing practices.
• Prepare legal documents, executive summaries, and written recommendations to support decision-making and documentation standards.
• Support negotiations, dispute resolution, and mediation efforts with third parties (vendors, contractors, and partners), ensuring appropriate documentation.
• Stay current on relevant laws and regulations and communicate implications and recommended actions to internal stakeholders.
