About The Position

The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal guidance on federal and state Medicaid laws, regulations, and compliance requirements. This role involves reviewing contracts, supporting regulatory filings, and ensuring alignment with evolving Medicaid rules, including waiver programs, reimbursement, and value-based care initiatives. The Legal Counsel may also handle audits, respond to inquiries from oversight agencies, and assist with dispute resolution. A successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex healthcare regulations in a practical, business-oriented manner.

Requirements

  • JD degree
  • Current license to practice law
  • Minimum of 3 years of specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance on federal and state Medicaid laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Review contracts.
  • Support regulatory filings.
  • Ensure alignment with evolving Medicaid rules, including waiver programs, reimbursement and value-based care initiatives.
  • Handle audits.
  • Respond to inquiries from oversight agencies.
  • Assist with dispute resolution.
  • Contribute to the overall results of the team by providing solutions to a limited range of legal problems of moderate scope and impact.
  • Apply department protocol, exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions.
  • Research legal principles and precedents.
  • Consult with higher level attorneys.
  • Draft and execute legal documents.
  • Gather relevant case related information.
  • Learn about risk identification and mitigation in the context of the health insurance industry or the attorney’s technical area of expertise.
  • Report to department management any identified business exposure and associated risks as well as mitigation techniques being utilized.
