About The Position

The Labor & Employment Practice Group at Lippes Mathias focuses on governmental relations/lobbying and represents public sector labor unions and other clients before the New York State Legislature, the Governor’s Office and State administrative agencies. We are seeking a self-starting candidate with superior organizational skills to support the partner-in-charge and several other attorneys in the practice group. The successful candidate will support the team in drafting and organizing legal documents. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience as a legal assistant
  • Accurate typing speed of 65+ wpm
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • General office and computer experience
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure
  • Reliable attendance record
  • Experience with editing, revising, and drafting of legal documents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and to complete projects with little direction
  • Ability to use discretion and handle confidential information
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce high quality work products
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of reporting with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare memoranda to open new matters
  • Create, maintain, and organize electronic and hard copy files
  • Prepare transmittal cover letters
  • Save, print, and file document submissions
  • Prepare and track delivery requests as needed
  • Help track status expirations and renewals
  • Proofread and edit documents as requested
  • Create accounting bills and expense reports as needed
  • Maintain closed files
  • Assist with calendaring critical dates
  • Provide other clerical support as needed
