About The Position

The Department of Education at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer/Supervisor positions. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system, known for its learn-by-doing approach and Teacher Scholar Model. The university has nearly 30,000 students and over 1,400 faculty, offering various degree, credential, and certificate programs. The College of Education and Integrative Studies is a learning community focused on meeting the present and future needs of students, educating them to become highly qualified and significant leaders in society, committed to diversity, ethics and social justice, and life-long learning. The Education Department's mission is to empower transformative educators who advocate for justice and equity for all learners, valuing equity, racial and social justice, academic excellence, student success, experiential learning, inclusiveness, and social and environmental responsibility. The department offers credential programs in Education Specialist, Multiple Subject, and Single Subject, along with added authorizations and a Master of Arts in Education. This temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding, and candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. Opportunities for teaching are available during Fall, Spring, and Summer Sessions in subject areas such as Foundations, Special Education, Multiple Subject, Single Subject, and Bilingual Education.

Requirements

  • M.A. required
  • 3-5 years as a credentialed teacher in public schools required (or may include other comparable K-12 teaching experiences)
  • Administrative Service Credential
  • Content area expertise
  • Related background desired in specific coursework area, i.e.: teacher education methodology or foundations, bilingual education (Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin), literacy and language, curriculum & instruction, Education Specialist, Teacher Performance Assessment
  • Supervisors must be experts in the instructional area of the candidate being supervised
  • Supervisors must have current knowledge of the content
  • Supervisors must have knowledge of the current context of public schooling including the California adopted P-12 content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems
  • Supervisors must have knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation
  • Supervisors must demonstrate effective professional practices in teaching and learning, scholarship, and service

Nice To Haves

  • A EdD or Ph.D. in Education or related discipline
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching
  • Multilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Mandarin

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum
  • Serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load
  • Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses in various instructional modes—in-person, synchronous, asynchronous
  • University Supervision in K-12 schools
  • Use of GoReact
