The Interior Design faculty at Indiana University Bloomington seeks a new colleague for a full-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (instructional track) to begin August 1, 2026. We seek applications from individuals whose perspective, scholarship, and/or built work advances the understanding of interior design as a human-focused, culturally contextualized, and ecologically aware discipline. We believe design unites humanity. The Interior Design faculty is currently comprised of ten full-time colleagues and additional dedicated adjunct faculty members committed to providing insightful, engaged, contextualized, innovative, and inspiring teaching and learning. The new colleague will support continued enrollment growth in the Program. Our faculty and students benefit from our previous experiences, including strong contributions from individuals who transitioned to teaching from professional practice. The Interior Design faculty is widely recognized for pedagogical excellence, including university-level teaching awards. The Interior Design faculty is also focused on developing and sharing design that informs, alters, and enhances interior design for people and society. The Interior Design program is situated within the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design and the College of Arts & Sciences. The Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design (Eskenazi School) ( https://eskenazi.indiana.edu/ ) advances creative practice, research, and education across art, architecture, design, and merchandising in service to our students, state, and beyond. We embody the liberal arts, encourage lifelong creative inquiry, embrace adaptability, drive innovation, shape culture, and fuel creativity in an evolving world. The Eskenazi School houses six undergraduate degree programs in art, design, and merchandising, as well as graduate degree programs in art, architecture, and design. Founded in 1820, Indiana University Bloomington is the flagship campus of IU’s eight campuses statewide. Innovation, creativity, and academic freedom are hallmarks of our world-class contributions in research and the arts. The Eskenazi School actively creates a culture focused on how we work together, learn from each other, and acknowledge our shared accomplishments and sorrows. We validate the voice and potential of every member of our community, strive to create a culture where difference is valued, and celebrate multiple perspectives within and beyond the school. We believe social and cultural consciousness inspires meaningful dialogue and empowers all to become influential and fulfilled citizens of the world. We realize this position announcement appears to describe an extraordinary human. We expect candidates to be ordinary humans—just as we are—who value balancing work and life. We hope you will cherish exploration of ideas and believe passionately in design education. Instructional-track faculty members in the Eskenazi School share responsibility and privileges with the tenure-track faculty members in developing, guiding, and delivering the quality education we provide. The Lecturer track follows a promotion process similar to tenure-track positions (lecturer, senior lecturer, teaching professor) with emphasis on development of an excellent teaching practice, mentoring of students, and service to the school.
