About The Position

About the Department : This is a pivotal and exciting moment for the profession and the department. The University of Florida (UF) is a leading public, land-grant research university, currently ranked 7th among all U.S. public universities by U.S. News & World Report . The Department of Interior Design is housed within the College of Design, Construction & Planning (DCP) with allied programs of Architecture, Construction Management, Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture, Sustainability in the Built Environment, and Urban & Regional Planning. Our department is home to a vibrant faculty whose various areas of expertise advance the field of human-centered design. We are widely recognized in academia, professional practice, and industry for our integrated approach—one that combines creative exploration with evidence-based inquiry across our teaching, research, and outreach efforts. Our graduates, from bachelor’s to doctoral levels, are well prepared to become leaders in the field. The department’s culture is further strengthened through strong national and international partnerships that support applied research and sponsored studio projects.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have a graduate degree in interior design or a related field and show strong potential in funded research, studio teaching, and professional practice in interior design.

  • We welcome candidates from a wide range of research specializations.
  • NCIDQ certification—or eligibility to complete the NCIDQ—is highly desirable to support studio teaching.
  • Candidates who can leverage the college’s new Collaboratory facility —including advanced digital fabrication labs and research spaces for lighting, materials, acoustics, robotics, digital twins, and VR—into their research and teaching are also desirable.
  • Additionally, the Department of Interior Design is exploring the ethical and effective integration of emerging AI tools into the curriculum, making AI expertise desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the teaching mission of the department, including studio courses.
  • Develop and maintain a significant scholarly research agenda.
  • Promote innovative service and outreach.
  • Advise graduate students.
