About The Position

The Department of Media and Communication in the College of Business and Technology at East Tennessee State University seeks a full-time Lecturer in Media and Communication with expertise in Public Relations and Social Media Management beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in brand communication, public relations, and social media strategy while supporting the department’s applied and professionally oriented curriculum.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Public Relations, Strategic Communication, Advertising, Marketing, Media and Communication, Brand and Media Strategy, or a closely related field, completed by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated professional or applied experience in public relations, brand communication, social media management, strategic communication, or related media production work.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, training, mentoring, or professional instruction.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate courses in public relations, brand communication, social media management, media writing, crisis communication, and related media production areas.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in departmental, college, and university service, as well as professional engagement activities.
  • Skills in industry-relevant software and digital media tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, social media analytics platforms, content production tools).
  • Strong commitment to student-centered teaching, experiential learning, and community-engaged education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four undergraduate courses per semester (4/4 teaching load)
  • Teach courses such as: Principles of Brand Communication Social Media Foundations Capstone in Brand Communication Public Relations Writing or Media Strategy
  • Support experiential and community-engaged learning through client-based projects and social media production
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students
  • Participate in departmental committees, curriculum development, and assessment activities
  • Maintain professional engagement with current public relations and social media industry practices
  • Support student recruitment, outreach, and program development efforts
  • Participate in departmental and college committees
  • Assist with curriculum and program development
  • Support student recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Engage with community and industry partners
  • Contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement
