About The Position
The University of Maine at Farmington - the historic birthplace of teacher education in Maine - invites applications for Lecturers in our Master in Education and Graduate Certificate in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for Academic Year 2025-2026 (summer) and Academic Year 2026-2027 (fall and spring). UMF is the leader in preparing school administrators and teachers to build inclusive, linguistically rich learning environments. UMF equips teachers with the tools and strategies needed to create inclusive, engaging classrooms for students learning English as an additional language. The program emphasizes the proficiency-oriented and communicative language instruction, helping educators design lessons that foster both language development and meaningful interaction among students. The program encourages educators to implement strategies that address diverse linguistic and cultural needs, promoting equity and engagement while enhancing student outcome in English language learning. UMF serves a diverse population of traditional and non-traditional students across a range of liberal arts and professional programs. To meet the needs of these learners, the University delivers general education and degree-specific coursework through a variety of modalities, including but not limited to: face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous instruction.
Requirements
- Education: Master's Degree in Education, TESOL, or a closely related field.
- Certification Eligibility: Must be eligible for the Maine Endorsement 660.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience working directly with Multilingual Learners and their families.
- Academic Preparation: Demonstrated academic background adequate for the specific ESOL courses to be taught.
Nice To Haves
- Teaching Experience: At least two years of online or hybrid teaching experience at the college level.
- Credentialing: Currently holds a valid 660 Endorsement.
- Leadership: Currently serving in a leadership role for Multilingual Learner programming within a school or agency setting.
Responsibilities
- Curriculum Development: Design and maintain syllabi aligned with departmental expectation and established course blueprints.
- Instructional Delivery: Lead lesson planning and facilitate instruction via the Brightspace LMS or other instructional software.
- Student Support: Maintain regular correspondence, hold office hour, and provide timely grading and feedback.
- Professional Collaboration: Attend course coordination meetings with the Associate Deann of Graduate Education and complete required orientations and trainings.
- Modality Note: While courses are offered predominantly online, some courses may include other modalities (i.e. synchronous and/or asynchronous).
