About The Position

The School of Sciences & Humanities at Wentworth Institute of Technology seeks applications for a full-time Chemistry Lecturer. This is a teaching-focused position centered on undergraduate instruction and student success. The successful candidate will teach introductory and intermediate chemistry courses, including lecture and laboratory sections, in support of engineering, applied sciences, and related programs. Wentworth is a teaching-focused polytechnic university serving a diverse, career-oriented student population. We are seeking a colleague with proven teaching competence and a strong record of working effectively with students in settings similar to ours.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field, completed at time of application. ABD candidates will not be considered.
  • At least two years of experience teaching undergraduate chemistry.
  • Experience teaching at an institution serving a student population similar to Wentworth.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching both lecture and laboratory courses.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, such as student evaluations, peer observations, sample materials, or similar documentation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the time of hire. Wentworth does not sponsor work visas for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 4 courses (16 credits) per semester, including lecture and laboratory sections
  • Deliver structured, engaging instruction in introductory and intermediate chemistry courses
  • Provide timely feedback, regular office hours, and strong support for student learning
  • Support laboratory instruction, preparation, and safety expectations
  • Collaborate with faculty on course coordination and curricular alignment

  • This position comes with a 10% retirement contribution (no matching required) according to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Wentworth Faculty Federation.
  • Wentworth uses a three-semester per year schedule. The faculty contracts are for two semesters (fall and spring) with optional summer teaching, which is paid on a prorated basis of the provided two-semester salary. This means the annual compensation could reach 1.5 times the provided two-semester salary, depending on the availability of summer classes.
