The Department of Art at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer pool in Art History for part-time teaching appointments. About Cal Poly Pomona Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive, relevant, and values diverse perspectives and experiences. With a variety of degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, engineering, and professional disciplines, the university is well known for its learn- by-doing approach and Teacher Scholar Model. The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. We acknowledge that Cal Poly Pomona resides on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people who are the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar. The university’s nearly 30,000 students are taught and mentored by the campus’s more than 1,400 faculty as part of 54 baccalaureate and 29 master’s degree programs, 11 credential and certificate programs, and a doctorate in educational leadership. About the College of Environmental Design The College of Environmental Design (ENV) at Cal Poly Pomona connects people, places, and the environments in which we live, work, and play. A leader in design excellence, ENV offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning; undergraduate degrees in art history and visual communication design; and a graduate degree in regenerative studies. ENV also manages the University’s two professional galleries, the W. Keith & Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery and the Don B. Huntley Gallery, and stewards the Neutra VDL House, a designated National Historic Landmark. Drawing on the rich creative economy and cultural capital of Southern California, ENV prepares students to shape the future of the built and natural environments with resiliency, inclusivity, and justice. About the Department of Art The Department of Art at Cal Poly Pomona is home to two distinctive programs within the College of Environmental Design: Art History and Visual Communication Design. Situated within a polytechnic university, we challenge students to engage the environmental, social, and ethical issues of today’s world through art and its histories. The Art History program holds the distinction of being the only program to offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History in the California State University system in Southern California. Our faculty are dedicated scholars committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we take pride in creating a supportive, intellectually rigorous environment where students develop skills in visual analysis, critical thinking, and scholarly research across global art from antiquity to the present.
